Introduction:

The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports' (MCYS) Charity Portal is the first online portal in the world that allows organisations to register for their Charity status or Institution of a Public Character (IPC) status online, and for fund raisers to apply electronically for a fund-raising permit.
Charities are defined as organisations set up exclusively for charitable objectives, such as the relief of poverty or the advancement of education, religion, health and other purposes beneficial to the community. An IPC is a non-profit or not-for-profit organisation whose activities are beneficial to the community in Singapore as a whole. Donations to IPCs are tax deductible.

Programme Details:

The Charity Portal allows for faster processing of these applications and also helps to improve transparency within the charity sector with the centralisation of charity-related information in a single database. This enhances information sharing amongst the Commissioner of Charities and the five co-regulators - Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, People's Association and the Singapore Sports Council.
The MCYS' Charity Portal was a finalist in the Public Administration category at Stockholm Challenge 2008.
