Objectives

To enable government agencies to enhance their service delivery, as well as offer inter-agency services

Introduction:

Through the effective reuse of data and services, Web Services accelerates the implementation of integrated e-services, where service delivery cuts across multiple government agencies or involves public-private sector collaboration. In recognition of this strategic potential of Web Services, the programme for the development and deployment of Web Services in the Public Sector was conceived to provide more opportunities for service transformation to help the Public Sector achieve better service delivery to citizens and businesses, and create a truly customer- centric experience.

 

Programme Details:

The project aims to:

  • Enable agencies to enhance their service delivery to citizens and businesses through backend integration with other agencies via the use of Web Services for better information and services reuse; and
  • Accelerate the implementation of integrated e-services, where services delivery cuts across multiple agencies, by encouraging the effective use of Web Services for inter-agencies collaboration.

The project also promises to improve the agencies' ability for more efficient data and services sharing. This will be made possible by connecting and providing access to the different government agencies systems in real time. Such capabilities can be extended to reach out to the Private Sector in a Public-Private Sector collaboration, thus creating the potential of harnessing services from both the Public and Private Sector. The end result would be citizens making use of richer services via their preferred access points.

Key Strategies

  • Identify and drive the development of strategic government Web Services that will have high impact on the operational efficiency and quality of service delivery;
  • Develop the Government Web Services Exchange (GWS-X) which is a central technical platform that supports the development and deployment of Web Services in the Public Sector. A central government Web Service registry will be hosted on the GWS-X to facilitate seamless access to government Web Services by both Public and Private Sector e-services.

Target Audience

The target audience is government agencies, with the aim to encourage them to make available information or services via Web Services. Other government agencies and companies from the Private Sector are also encouraged to make use of the available government Web Services published in GWS-X.
